Soda Forever, With Self Awareness

I’m a soda-holic. I’m not going through a whole 12 pack a day or anything, but it’s still pretty bad. I know it’s a wholesome addiction, but if something significantly affects your grocery budget, without adding any nutritional value, it still counts as a bad habit. I want to be clear I am not making light of more serious addictions. While I can’t give someone second hand soda, and it doesn’t change my brain chemistry, it’s absolutely something that I’m well known for to friends, family, and coworkers. If they had an intervention I would totally understand. I can see it’s a problem. I’ve tried to stop, but my addictive personality just wants soda in the end. It’s why I stay away from alcohol and and weed. If I can’t stop this. I shouldn’t start anything like that.

I forget the actual order of things but it started in late elementary school or in early middle school. Back then I only had a soda with meals. I was addicted to 7 Up and Sprite at one point. Eventually Diet Coke like a family member. As I am still today. I can picture the 12 pack boxes in the fridge. The box opening ripped off. A cold can waiting for me. It was better than my previous addiction it Sunny D.

Sometimes we would get Diet Pepsi if it was on sale, but Diet Coke was the queen. Also, yes, I do know it’s worse for me than regular soda. Any soda is bad for you, so I will simply drink what I like more. I do wonder how my addiction would have been affected had I been forced to drink regular cola drinks. Another family member was a regular coke or Pepsi person, but I just can’t do it. Something about the way regular soda hits makes it hard to finish one. Calorie free options go down like water.

Sometimes I’m a Coke Zero person, to fully embrace the calorie free soda world. The one thing I have learned is Diet Coke and Coke Zero are both great, but Pepsi Zero is much better than Diet Pepsi. I’ve had Great Value brand too. The Coke Zero/Pepsi Zero rip off is better than the Diet Coke/Diet Pepsi rip off.

While this post doesn’t help me, and it doesn’t help you. It’s relatable. That’s why I wrote it. I also needed a blog post. I’m a self aware soda-holic. I’m careful with my addictive personality. If you have one too I hope you take note.

I wish a happy new year to everyone, and hopefully you get to celebrate with the soda of your choice. Just not too much.
